Salmon Bay FC’s top-of-the-table clash with Snohomish United lived up to the billing on Sunday as the two division frontrunners settled for a point apiece after an exhilarating match featuring six goals, six different goal scorers, three go-ahead goals and three equalizers.

Salmon Bay goals from Ginny Lackey, U’i Kaaihue and Morgan Manalili brought the Coho back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits, as well as giving them a late 3-2 lead, but Snohomish found an equalizer in the dying minutes to rescue a point at home.
It was a must-get result for Salmon Bay, who sit three points behind Snohomish with a game in hand. If the Coho can secure a win at home midweek against last-place Tacoma Galaxy, it would set up a win-and-you’re-in season finale at Interbay Stadium against Snohomish.
It took Snohomish United less than a minute to get on the attack and produce a shot, as Saleen Koszorus sent a low effort into the side of the net after dancing her way into the box.
Salmon Bay responded in the 4th with what was nearly Ginny Lackey’s second Olimpico in as many games, whipping a corner just beyond the far post.
The first 10 minutes were end-to-end with both teams getting into the attacking third and producing shots, with the first save of the match being produced by Snohomish goalkeeper Malie Chamberland, diving to push a Maya Hindson effort wide in the 7th minute.
The teams would take a much-needed breather during an injury timeout after a track meet of the first 20 minutes.
It would be the hosts who found first blood, scoring off a corner-kick header by Ally Laccinole to make it 1-0.
Salmon Bay responded with a set-piece header of their own in the 41st, with Ginny Lackey’s looping effort off an Anna Menti free kick slipping through the hands of Chamberland and just across the goalline to even the score.
Lackey nearly got a second at the stroke of halftime, muscling her way between a pair of defenders and driving a low shot towards net, but a strong right hand from Chamberland denied her and sent the teams into the break tied at 1-1.
Snohomish would once again strike first in the second half, and once again it came from a header on a far-post cross. This time Cameron Bourne would provide the finish off a Hailey Perkins cross that just skimmed the fingertips of Salmon Bay goalkeeper Elena Milam.
The intensity of the match didn’t let up for even a second as Salmon Bay pushed to equalize and Snohomish looked to pad their lead.
In the 65th minute, Ameera Hussen was pushed down in the box, drawing the referee’s whistle and a chance to make it 2-2 from the spot. Kaaihue would deliver, calmly slotting home the penalty to once again draw it level.
10 minutes later Salmon Bay would capture their first lead of the match, as a scramble in the box following a corner kick would see super-sub Manalili fire a shot through the traffic and into the back of the net to make it 3-2.
Head Coach Malia Arrant made a pair of subs following the goal, looking to see out the 3-2 scoreline, but the hosts would push the Salmon Bay defense hard, breaking through in the 87th. A rocket from Addisen Boyer from an angle would beat Milam at her far post, rescuing a draw for Snohomish and setting up a possible title-deciding rematch at Interbay stadium.
